Success – have you ever thought about how you define success? In the professional world, one may always be striving for success but without defining what it means to them, they may never achieve it.
Leaders at Enhabit Home Health & Hospice are continually working to define what success means for them as they grow their teams and evolve their roles. For Regional President of Home Health Operations Steven Waits, success is equal to pride.
“Success can mean so many different things for different people,” he said. “But I believe that if you don’t know where you are going, you’ll never get there. Success for me means that at the end of my journey, I will be known as a man of integrity who served others and always gave his best.”
This Meet the Leaders series is a place where you can learn more about the extraordinary people, like Steven, who drive Enhabit forward with their expertise and dedication.
Great people make a great team
Steven has been with Enhabit for over 25 years, joining the organization through acquisition and staying ever since. When asked why we has stayed so long, he answered quickly.
“One of the greatest reasons I have stayed is the people I work with,” he said. “The team we have is second to none!”
That team approach has helped guide Steven throughout his career. To him, it’s more important to work together as a team than to strive for individual success and recognition.
“Putting your efforts toward serving those you work with will drive the entire team’s success,” he said. “The team will always be stronger than the individual.”
Motivation is easy when you care
Staying with a company for over 25 years has resulted in many lessons learned. Despite the challenges, Steven’s passion for patient care has carried him throughout his different roles.
“I love our promise and what we are called here to do at Enhabit,” he said. “Challenges happen every day but being passionate about those you serve makes that so much easier.”
At Enhabit, our promise is to provide A Better Way to Care® by expanding what’s possible for patient care in the home. Our teams love what they do because of the patient aspect – the same goes for Steven.
“What an honor to be chosen to care for patients during some of the most difficult times of their lives,” he said. “That keeps me so motivated! I stay continuously motivated by the incredible teams I am blessed to work with. Their drive to give our patients and families the best is contagious!”
Steven’s leadership philosophy
In addition to tackling every day with a passion for patient care, Steven says it’s important to create a positive work environment, and he does so by leading by example.
“I show people that I thoroughly enjoy my job and the people I am blessed to work with,” he said. “I am surrounded by so many talented leaders.”
Although Steven has an important leadership role, he still prioritizes growth and development – and he does so by keeping in touch with his team and the talented leaders he works with.
“Staying engaged with my teams and working through the day-to-day challenges together has provided me with so many opportunities for continued growth in my role,” he said.
Proud to expand what’s possible
While feeling proud is important to Steven as he continues to define success in his role, the thing that brings him the most pride is the care Enhabit provides and the difference it can make in thousands of patients’ lives.
“I am most proud of maintaining a longstanding reputation of a team that provides the best care to patients and the families we are blessed to serve,” he said.
