Purpose — have you ever wondered what drives someone to grow from a bedside nurse into a transformative leader? For April, it’s a deep sense of calling — one rooted in compassion, curiosity and connection. Nearly 15 years after joining Enhabit Home Health & Hospice as a part-time home health nurse, she now leads with purpose and passion, committed to delivering high-quality, compassionate care.
A journey of growth
April began her career in the intensive care unit, but it was her transition to home health that sparked a desire to do more. “I started asking questions, making connections and fine-tuning my focus,” she said. “I knew I wanted to do more.”
With the support of her supervisors and the Enhabit Enrichment Center (EEC), April found the mentorship and resources she needed to grow. Today, she leads with clarity, compassion and conviction.
From clinical care to leadership
For clinicians considering a move into leadership, April offers this advice: “Tell people where you want to go. Share your goals and set timelines. Don’t make a plan B — commit fully.”
She acknowledges that the journey isn’t always easy. “You’ll hear ‘no,’ but let that fuel your desire to grow. Get comfortable with the uncomfortable.”
Staying rooted in purpose
April’s journey with Enhabit began thanks to a close friend who encouraged her to join the team. “I only wanted to work part time,” she said. “But I stayed because of the team and the care we provide to our community. The work we do is meaningful — it helps me fulfill my purpose.”
Leading with heart
For April, the most rewarding part of her role is the opportunity to make a difference. “We heal people. We restore health. We add years of life and meaning,” she said. “That’s what makes this work so rewarding.”
She draws daily inspiration from her team. “Their energy, passion and trust in me as their leader keeps me going,” she said.
Finding balance
To recharge, April disconnects from the world and reconnects with nature and faith. “I love traveling, reading and fishing the Kenai River in Alaska,” she said. “But most importantly, I spend time reading my Bible and seeking the Lord’s will for my life and this operation. We could never do this alone.”
She remains grateful for her team’s shared commitment to growth. “I’m thankful for their persistent determination to be curious and grow with me.”
