When you think of legacy, what comes to mind? For Jocelyn Caraway, vice president of business development at Enhabit Home Health & Hospice, legacy isn’t about the numbers. It’s about the leaders you grow.
Jocelyn joined Enhabit as an intake coordinator and clinical supervisor in 2014. Eight months later, she was recruited into the regional program director role, where she discovered her passion for home health. She later transitioned to director of clinical services in McKinney, Texas, before moving into her current role as vice president of business development.
“My path reflects Enhabit’s commitment to promoting from within and matching talent to impact,” Jocelyn said. “I’m proud to have grown across roles that have shaped me into a stronger leader.”
How mentorship shaped a leader
Mentorship played an important role in Jocelyn’s professional development by helping her recognize both her strengths and areas for growth. She believes coachability and humility helped her make the transition from managing people to leading them.
“I’ve been fortunate to have mentors who saw potential in me that I didn’t see in myself,” she said. “I’m grateful for their trust and guidance as I continue to grow as a leader.”
Pursuing excellence through professional development
To Jocelyn, professional development is just as important as technical training. One tool that had a significant impact on her growth was the Enneagram personality model.
“Learning the Enneagram has transformed the way I lead, first by helping me better understand myself, then by allowing me to build a team with complementary strengths while adapting how I motivate each person on my team,” she said.
Jocelyn has learned that when leaders invest in professional development, there is no ceiling to what teams can accomplish. The lessons she gained through self-awareness and personal growth have helped shape her leadership style and approach to team development.
She has become a more empathetic, vulnerable and effective leader while reinforcing a culture of accountability and excellence. That commitment continues to influence how she develops team members, supports Enhabit’s growth and helps teams deliver high-quality compassionate care.
Exceptional leadership starts with self-awareness
To those who aspire to be healthcare leaders one day, Jocelyn offers simple advice: Lead yourself first and own what you can do better.
“Build your skills by reading, seeking feedback and confronting habits that hold you back,” she said. “Practice radical candor. Care personally and challenge directly.”
How a clinical background shapes healthcare leadership
“My clinical background as a registered nurse and my passion for the care we provide have kept me from being just another salesperson. I share real patient success stories, build genuine trust and show referral sources that I’m invested in outcomes, not just referrals.”
Jocelyn’s clinical and operational background helps her build trust with referral sources and support strategic growth initiatives.
“At the end of the day, we’re humans caring for humans, doing our best to create the most positive experience possible.”
That people-first mindset and commitment to compassion continue to shape how she leads her team and serves referral partners. She uses that experience to help her team bring the same value into their accounts and plays an active role in shaping sales strategy through her clinical lens when it is helpful. That perspective has strengthened the sales and operations culture across the region and reinforces her commitment to delivering the best possible experience for patients and families.
Finding purpose at work and at home
Outside of work, Jocelyn is a proud mom of two girls. Together, they enjoy shopping, bowling, movies and trips to the lake and the beach.
“Being present at home and effective at work matters to me,” she said. “Finding that balance took years.”
Balancing work and motherhood can be challenging, but finding joy in difficult moments is what keeps Jocelyn going. Spending time with her family recharges her battery and helps her show up for her team and lead with purpose.
At Enhabit, Jocelyn continues to invest in people, develop future leaders and build a legacy around what matters most — one measured not by numbers, but by the people she helps grow.
